About Us

We are a family business nestled in the mountains of western Maine. Jeff is a British import: Pattie a California babe (we met in Florida and moved to a point mid way between the two sets of parents.) As well as Ta-Ka-Radi® came the four children - Emily ('82) Thomas ('83), Charles ('87), and Jonathon ('90).

The History - how Ta-Ka-Radi® came to be

In the depths of the '70s,
Jeff and Pattie were driving from Maine to California in their Volkswagen bus.
Staying with old college friends, they were introduced to a wonderful game their hostess had just picked up in Takarodi Secondi, Ghana, West Africa.
Once in California, with their last dime spent on a new tire, they needed to be creative with Christmas presents.

Recalling the game from
Takarodi Secondi, Ghana, West Africa,
the light went on.

So Pattie sewed some bags.

Jeff sawed some tiles.

They made up the name and rules.

And their Christmas present
problem was solved.

Back in Maine they gave Ta-Ka-Radi® to friends Steve and Peggy of the Sunday River Inn.

They played.

Their guests played.

They wanted it.

We made more.

From then on growth was spectacular.

Calls came in from all over the world.

The largest mail order companies
carried Ta-Ka-Radi®.

We became a 'Kitchen Table Industry',

with appearances on TV, Maine Times,

and other prestigious publications
The legend was born!

Ta-Ka-Radi® became a household word!
